‘Jumpy’ airline passenger almost causes airport chaos by opening emergency door

A 65-year-old man flying for the first time has been arrested after he opened an airliner’s emergency door while waiting to disembark the aircraft.
The 65-year-old, known only as Mr Song, had just arrived at Zhoushan Putuoshan Airport in East China with his family, when he became 'jumpy'.
Song was seated at the back of the plane, operated by Shandong Airlines, and became upset with the amount of time it was taking to leave the plane.
In a statement given in court, Song said he noticed the emergency exit door and though it was an extra exit the crew had forgotten about.
After he opened the door, he "saw there were no stairs attached", according to Southern Metropolis Daily. He then immediately closed the door before the inflatable slide was launched.
But the opening of the door set off alarms within the plane and the crew called the police.
Song reportedly told officers that it was his first time flying so he didn't know of proper aircraft regulations.
He was given 10 days of administrative detention for putting public safety at risk.
"The emergency hatch was repaired and replaced shortly after and fortunately did not cause any major delays or significant economic loss to the airline," said Officer Shen Ke.
