Dubai Customs redevelops smart Jebel Ali Customs Operations Room

Dubai Customs has announced the redevelopment of its customs operations room at Jebel Ali & Tecom Customs Centre.
Director General of Dubai Customs Ahmed Mahboob Musabih inaugurated the new operations room which is equipped with the most advanced and smart electronic systems to efficiently aid in customs activities and operations.
The inauguration was attended by a host of executive directors and heads of customs departments.
The redevelopment was carried out in-house and was based on the employees’ efforts and intellect, Dubai Customs said in a statement.
It helps streamline inspection activities and reduce time needed for inspection. The Dubai Customs booking system has been linked to that of DP World, which enables clients book inspection slots directly once they receive codes from DP World.
“We worked on redeveloping all customs operation rooms and equipping them with the most advanced technologies to enable them work with utmost efficiency in fulfilment of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai to facilitate trade and protect society,” said Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, director general of Dubai Customs.
“The redeveloped room helps towards easier and more efficient inspection of goods and facilitating their flow into the local and regional markets and free zones,” he added. “Jebel Ali’s Operation Room dealt with 208,247 inspection requests in 2018, and 43,462 in 1Q 2019.”
Musabih thanked all employees who contributed to the redevelopment of the operations room.
The Jebel Ali Customs Operations Room was established in 2013 to aid inspection operations of Jebel Ali & Tecom Centre.

DECATHLON ROLLS OUT PARCEL LOCKERS IN BELGIUM

Sports retailer Decathlon is working with bpost subsidiary Cubee to roll out parcel collection lockers at its stores in Belgium. The sports retailer and bpost are introducing collection points at 12 stores across Belgium by the end of 2019. The first points will be at stores in Maasmechelen and Olen, with Antwerp and Wavre to follow in the short term. The machine in the car park of the Maasmechelen store has 58 individual lockers. Built by Cubee, the technology allows customers to collect and return online orders from certain internet shops. Customers are sent an email or SMS with the collection code once the courier places the order in the Cubee parcel machine. In the future, Decathlon wants to use the machines to offer a same-day click and collect service.
