THE BEST DON’T REST: MARITIME BAGS 200 NEXT GEN SCANIA’S




Maritime Transport have ordered 200 Next Generation Scanias’ to support its continued growth. The trucks, prepared and delivered through Scania Dealer, TruckEast, will see driver welfare standards and vehicle endurance strengthen as they hit the road early June 2018.

Key to Maritime’s biggest order of Scania vehicles to date is a combination of fuel efficiency, reliability, durability, and driver praise. Following their purchase of five Next Generation tractor units back in 2017, Scania and their vehicles have proved to be crucial to Maritime’s growth. With a fleet of 1,200 trucks spread across a network of 35 depots which cover 100 million miles a year, the Scania R450 tractor units will ensure a smooth operation is maintained within a highly demanding industry.

Maritime’s new additions bring an impressive artillery to their fleet expansion and update, comprising improved fuel economy, whole life cost, sustainability, and safety features. Their economical 330kW (450hp) six-cylinder engines are paired with Scania’s 2-pedal opticruise transmission, and deliver 2,350 Nm torque with full SCR technology.

“We have had a strong relationship with Scania for a number of years and their vehicles make up a large proportion of our fleet,” said Stuart Wardlaw – Fleet Director. “In the months leading up to our most recent order, we held track trials with a number of our vehicles. During the trials, it was evident that Scania’s Next Generation vehicle had improved MPG, and after receiving positive feedback from our drivers regarding the five Next Generation vehicles already on fleet, we’re delighted to have been able to

order a significant amount of these vehicles again, and look forward to integrating them fully onto our fleet.”

Maritime have also focused their efforts to ensure their new tractor units will provide excellent facilities for drivers. The spacious R cabs are fitted with fridges and microwave ovens among other convenient benefits.

“We want our drivers to feel comfortable in their new vehicles, with access to everything they need,” stated Stuart. “A driver’s attitude towards their vehicle reflects in their driving; a vehicle that provides excellent working and living standards can only enhance a driver’s performance on the road, leading them to drive safely, and more efficiently.”

Saudia's cargo unit adds two planes to fleet

Two new B747-400 freighters increases fleet to 15; will be used in cargo charter market The cargo unit of Saudi Arabian Airlines is expanding its dedicated fleet with the arrival of two B747-400 freighters. Saudia Cargo's latest additions will form part of its 15-strong fleet, the carrier said in a statement. Of these aircraft, 12 will be used for Saudia's scheduled services to 27 freighter destinations worldwide, while its charter business will benefit from three dedicated B747 freighters.
